Garland

Garland covers 57 square miles of picturesque terrain, making it the 10th largest city in the state of Texas. Although Garland continues to grow in size and population, this peaceful community, rich in tradition and family values, has managed to maintain a small town charm.

Garland’s park system provides residents with a broad range of recreational programs, classes and special events through its very active recreation department. The city parks combine to offer more than 2,500 acres of parkland, some developed and some undeveloped. These award-winning facilities include five recreation halls, two senior citizen centers, four swimming pools, a 14-court tennis complex, 50 playgrounds, 73 athletic fields, four group picnic pavilions, a marina and more than 20 miles of trails for walking, running, hiking and biking.

Residents can also take advantage of many other area attractions that provide locals with a retreat from the glitz and glamour of big city life. The Surf and Swim Wave Pool, the Garland Senior Activity Center, the Spring Creek Forest Preserve, the Audubon Recreation Center, Lake Ray Hubbard, Windsurf Bay Park and the Carter Softball Complex (to name a few) provide locals with fun, safe gathering spots for the entire family to enjoy. Naturally, the city’s proximity to downtown Dallas also affords residents the luxury of experiencing the big city thrills of a thriving metropolis.

Dallas is filled with performing arts centers, concert halls, theatres, major sporting arenas and entertainment venues in addition to an eclectic mix of restaurants featuring everything from Tex-Mex cuisine to the finest surf and turf dishes in the country. The area’s nightlife is incredible. Bars, taverns and nightclubs fill the downtown district, providing live regional music and various other local acts.

When it comes to education, the Garland School District ranks as the 2nd largest in Dallas County and the 11th largest in the state. Garland is one of only three districts in Texas to receive an AA1 bond rating from Moody’s Investor Service. The city boasts a student to teacher ratio of 1:22 throughout all age groups, extending from the elementary level to high school. The area is filled with institutions of higher learning. The University of Texas, Amberton University, Southern Methodist University, Texas A & M and the Dallas County Community College are all located within less than an hour’s drive of Garland residents.

Thanks to an abundance of lakes and other waterways, open parkland, quaint neighborhood settings and friendly people, Garland remains a very attractive place to live, work and play. With affordable housing options dominating the city and a commute into Dallas of less than 20 minutes, Garland has become a major bedroom community serving the Greater Dallas Area. If you crave life in a small-town environment yet still need access to a major city, then Garland is the right place for you.
